This was a fun dream… I dreamed that there was a music and lyrics competition which was sponsored by a TV commercial company.

They were looking for a new catchy song and were taking no-name originals as well as famous professionals.

The show host was an annoying fellow that was very good at his job. He was loud, funny, pushy, sarcastic…

For some reason I was at the contest and really berating myself for being there. I had absolutely no desire to write or sell commercial jingles… what was I doing there???

I was sitting back stage with my guitar wondering how to get out of this predicament. I decided I would just ignore the contest and sing a song to God.

I closed my eyes and hummed… I sang “you’re always on my mind… hallelujah…” The words and music seemed to flow. I relaxed and filled myself with the song.

My name was called. I was going to be next after the nervous girl that was headed out on stage. She was cute and good at singing. She had a cute song ready. I gave her the thumbs up and a big smile to encourage her. She was so jittery and nervous.

I looked deeper back stage and let out my breath, trying to focus on my song again. I saw a man standing in the shadows. He held a violin. He was very tall and thin. I knew that he played the violin like no one I had ever known before. That he was brilliant. The best.

He never said a word, but somehow he communicated to me that he liked my song and that he would like to offer his music to go with it. I was amazed and very glad. I nodded.

It was my turn. The girl before me tripped past, looking blitzed from the Host’s rapid humor-abuse. I told her she did great and patted her shoulder.

I stepped out into the bright lights.

The show Host made some jokes about no-name hopeful talent, etc… and asked me what the name of my song was.

I told him “Always on my Mind, Hallelujah.”

“Oh,” he said and then began to sing, “Always on my Mind… of course. Very apt. Like “Always on my mind… Mayonnaise…. or Always on my mind… _____!” I can hear it now! A real winner. I can sing this song. Yeah, let me sing this one…”

He was so crass and obnoxious, but somehow I didn’t care at all. I wasn’t in the contest. I didn’t give a rip what this tinfoil air-bag thought. I glanced at him and struck a chord on my guitar.

“Shoot.” I said with a bored affect.

He was silent in shock for a split second and the audience laughed. Then he laughed, tried to recover and quickly found a way off stage.

I looked to my left and into the shadows. The violin man was standing there waiting. He nodded at me. I strummed my guitar and began to sing.

I awoke toward the end of the song.

—————————————————————–

I remembered it well enough to write it down. I even remembered the key it was in. I played it and sang it for Gabe. He recorded it and the recording is here: http://www.7xsunday.net/teaching-preaching/audio/music/

I regret to say the Violin Man wasn’t there when we recorded. He was amazing. Breathtakingly beautiful music! But… maybe you’ll hear him anyway. :-D

On My Mind Hallelujah

I was born into this world facing trouble
And it caught me ‘fore I even knew my name
Guess I might of died but you came into my mind
And I lived to smile again another day

On my mind when I’m dancing in the kitchen
On my mind when I’m smiling in my sleep
On my mind all the time… hallelujah!
And there’s nothing quite so sweet.

Rainy days are bringing me your rainbows
Mountain’s steep are teaching me your might
And weariness aside I’m feeling so alive
Hallelujah, hallelujah, yeah… that’s right.

On my mind when I’m singing in the shower
On my mind when I’m weary on my feet
On my mind all the time… hallelujah!
And there’s nothing quite so sweet.

On my mind when I’m weeping in the valley
On my mind when I’m on a mountain peak.
On my mind all the time… hallelujah!
And there’s nothing quite so sweet.
